The tournament was called Tri City Storm Soccer Tournament and it was held in Fargo/Moorhead, North Dakota from June 17 – 19. We challenged the C1 division (otherwise known as the Premier division).
The competition was tough right from from the start with a narrow 3-2 win against Minot Magic. Our 2nd game resulted in a 3-0 win against TriCity Storm. Our final round robin game was against the Magic Soccer FC and resulted in a 2-2 draw. We ended the round robin in first place and replayed the Magic Soccer FC in the championship. This was a difficult match played in 31 degree heat and after 70 minutes of play and a last minute surge by Hanover, we finished the game in a 3-3 draw. So we played an additional 10 min of extra time during which we scored in the 2nd half of extra time.
This was undoubtedly the most challenging match this team has ever played. Despite several injuries on the team and scouring heat, the boys battled hard to the win. Great job by the boys! I count myself fortunate to be part of this amazing group!
I am very proud of this group. Being a rural team, the expectations are usually low, but the Hanover Vipers have continued to break the steroetypes and remain a competitive team in the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association (WYSA). We now play in what is referred to as Premier 2. In addition, we are also competing in the 2016 MSA Cup Provincial Championship. This year there are only 5 teams entered in the U14 group which includes the 4 top teams from Winnipeg. The winner of this competition will go to Nationals in Moncton, NB in October.
